I've Only Been Awake For An Hour And A Half

I've Only Been Awake For An Hour And A Half
Day 264 of 365 (Year Two)

So I went and attempted to donate platelets today. They stuck my right arm and everything was fine. When they went to stick my left arm, however, things didn’t go as well. Apparently, my veins decided to be uncooperative today. They stuck me twice and weren’t able to get a good drip either time.

After sticking my the first time in the left arm once of the techs asked me how much water I had drunk today. I told her I had a glass of milk when I got up and then a full bottle of water on my way to the center. She told me I had to drink more than that to which I responded, "But I’ve only been awake for an hour and a half!" Both techs thought this was hysterical. We then got into a long discussion about how much to drink and when. I told her I had no problem drinking water, but that I had real trouble doing it while I was asleep. We then started talking about drinking and going out at night. I did tell them that I’d be glad to go out drinking if the Red Cross demanded it of me in order to plump up my veins.

I’ve gotten to know the techs there and they’ve gotten to know me due to my repeated visits to the center. They are a great bunch of people. While I wasn’t able to donate today, they did take great care of me and it wasn’t their fault they couldn’t get a vein today. Apparently they were running thin and kept rolling. Oh well. As soon as the bruise goes away I’ll be back. I’ll just have to remember to wake up earlier so I can drink more water or go partying the night before.

Todays photo is of me creating raffle tickets. I am one of three coordinators putting on a concert event to raise money for the American Cancer Society (www.minotbandstogether.com for my shameless plug). It’s actually been a frustrating day for me. Unless you’ve been intimately involved in planning an event, it’s hard to understand just how much work goes into it. I get nothing for all my time and effort except the satisfaction of knowing I had a hand in raising thousands of dollars to help people with cancer, which is a huge result for me. No matter how much blood, sweat and tears you put into something, there is always going to be someone to criticize. Dozens of people are donating time, money, merchandise…much is on the line. So, now that I’ve vented a bit of my frustration, I’ll get back to stamping these raffle tickets and hope that we can sell each and everyone of them, for a good cause.
